"Surfin'" apparently wasn't rerecorded for Surfin' Safari, it was just sped up. David Leaf, who wrote the liner notes had to write that it was re-recorded since Capitol didn't own the copyrights when in 1990 when it was released. While Surfin' only reached #75 nationally, it was a #2 hit in L.A.
